Barbados Youth Business Trust

Working Internationally

In December 2011, iSE advisors took to warmer climes to deliver a series of training sessions with Barbados Youth Business Trust (BYBT), a young people’s enterprise charity in Barbados.

iSE worked with BYBT to look at alternative income streams and modes of operation in order to strengthen the position of the organisation within their local and regional environment. In order to support this organisational development, iSE proposed to carry out a holistic approach via two stages: firstly supporting the organisation itself and secondly supporting the organisation to develop its programme of delivery. Stage one was carried out over three days and involved an in depth analysis of BYBT allowing for 16 different ideas for income generation and greater sustainability to be achieved, with action planning for implementation against each business idea. The capacity building training in stage two was carried out over the remaining two days on subjects including customer service and social impact with the aim of introducing staff to new ways of working to ensure that they can develop opportunities and therefore BYBT.

“iSE understood very well the need to balance both the social and economic aims. We found it refreshing to work with an organisation that had a real understanding of an NGO and how it works.” BYBT
