Women’s Project Takes Flight
Planning is currently underway for iSE’s exciting new project ‘Flying Start‘, due to launch in April. The 18 month RBS-funded programme is aimed at encouraging and supporting more women into the world of social enterprise.
We hope to offer our ‘Flying Starters’ a smorgasbord of non-traditional social enterprise support to expand and compliment our existing ERDF services, with a focus on leadership, expertise, finance and networks to empower local women to lead successful and sustainable social businesses.
A number of inspiring female social entrepreneurs have already kindly offered up their time and expertise to deliver social enterprise masterclasses across a range of themes relevant to social enterprise start-up and growth. Confirmed speakers so far include Jan Golding of Roots HR, Siobhan Harper-Nunes of Shakti Women, Joy Warmington of BRAP and Sarah Gill of Gro Organic. Watch this space for more…
The project will also see the development of a mentoring network, matching women starting out in social enterprise to an experienced female business mentor to give guidance, encouragement and advice through what can often be a challenging and testing time.
It is hoped that Flying Start project will lead to an increased number of women in Birmingham realising their aspirations for self-employment, starting social enterprises, and accessing new opportunities through the creation of networks.
If you would like to be a part of the Flying Start project, whether you or a group you work with would benefit from support or whether you would like to become a mentor for other women, please get in touch with Elizabeth Barker on 0121 771 1411 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
