Our access to enterprise programme is funded by Capacitybuilders, as part of a 30 month initiative to raise awareness of and increase access to social enterprise approaches across the third sector.

Infrastructure agencies across the West Midlands are invited to take part in this innovative approach to the development of a thriving third sector.iSE is able to provide support within both urban and rural parts of the region.
iSE is developing a range of resources that include questionnaires, games and a toolkit, as well as a training course that will provide practical and fun ways to develop this area of work.

We aim to support the development of strong and healthy voluntary and community organisations across the West Midlands, using methods developed in the social enterprise sector.

Social Enterprise Hub - Birmingham

iSE have been awarded a BASIS Lottery grant to establish the first social enterprise hub in Birmingham. The Hub was officially opened by Cllr Paul Tilsley (Deputy Leader or Birmingham City Council) on 25th September 2008.

Healthy Social Enterprise - Dissemination conference

ISE held its Healthy Social Enterprise conference on 15th July 2009.

The conference was organised to disseminate information on our recent project funded by the Department of Health and run in partnership with Birmingham City Council's Adult and Communities Directorate.

Sarah Crawley CEO of ISE said 'this year’s conference has been a huge success. We have had the opportunity to work with commissioners and assist social entrepreneurs develop their social enterprises which will provide better services to individuals. This project has ensured that we are at the cutting edge of learning and enabling the development of social enterprises in the health sector'.

Working Neighbourhoods Funds Third Sector Consortia

iSE with funding secured from Birmingham City Council are supporting Third Sector Organisations in Birmingham develop consortia to respond to the imminent call for Working Neighbourhood Fund tenders.

Nearly £29m of funds is allocated within the Worklessness theme to be locally commissioned through the City's Constituency Structures. A further £22m is available to support specific clients through strategic themes e.g. the homeless.

Funding will be targeted on Super Output Areas within specific constituencies (click here to find out how much is available).The aim of the fund is to address long term worklessness trends and ensure that areas with the highest levels of worklessness have funds targeted on them.

Our highly successful constituency events have been well attended and have indicated the potential opportunties for third sector organisations.

Tackling Worklessness Through Social Enterprise - Conference November 2008.

ISE' s third annual conference which demonstrated how social enterprise can tackle worklessness breaks new ground. The conference was supported by a grant from Social Enterprise West Midlands (SEWM) and designed to show how social enterprise is best placed to tackle worklessness and generate sustainable jobs for those who are furthest away from the labour market.
